Have you ever wondered what the most luxurious types of wood are?

Introduction

Woodworking to create tables is just one of our activities. LTJarbor also takes care of Exotic wood slab table and live edge large wood slabs that can be used for numerous other functions, such as shelves, coffee tables, internal paneling and so on. For this it is necessary to have an in-depth knowledge of the characteristics of the various types of wood.

Today we will talk about which are the most luxurious types of wood that come from Europe and those from Asia.

Luxury wood from Europe

When we talk about the most luxurious types of wood, one of the types of wood that comes to mind first is walnut (Junglans regia). Walnut is a semi-hard wood but with great modeling by the craftsman. The dark color of the walnut with veins tending to black, which stand out after polishing, makes it possible to create particularly elegant furniture.

Oak is another of the more luxurious types of wood. Oak wood is heavy, solid and long-lasting. It is a wood with good workability, excellent in both cutting and planing. It is mainly used in the construction of furniture and parquet.

Another tree with which to create valuable products is the chestnut. It is particularly suitable for outdoor structures, even in contact with water, and therefore also for boat building.

The cherry tree, as well as for its delicious fruits, is a tree that gives valuable wood. The cherry tree reaches an age of one century on average which, for the world of trees, is not particularly advanced. Cherry wood is a hard wood that dries and is easy to work with. This allows to obtain particularly smooth axes after machining.

Luxury wood from Asia

Among the most luxurious types of wood from Asia are the exotic Asian ebony or Macassar, Padauk and the Asian Acacia.

These are more luxurious types of wood which, for some of them at least, due to their rarity and scarcity, are also more difficult to find. We refer for example to the macassar ebony.

Unlike European wood species such as walnut or oak, the ebony of the macassar type is native to Indonesia and Thailand. Macassar ebony has a beautiful brownish red color embellished with the “striped” effect, that is, the thin and regular streaks on the radial sections.

Be careful not to get confused with the less expensive (and low-quality) alternative to this highly prized real ebony wood, or the so-called “African Mahogany”. The latter are types of wood that have aesthetic characteristics similar to those of Macassar ebony, although not even belonging to the same botanical genus.

Padauk is an exotic wood that starts off brilliant orange or almost scarlet when freshly cut, then oxidizes to a darker, rich purple-brown with time, staying redder than Indian Rosewood. It is a good wood in every way – sturdy and easy to work with. It is slightly tougher and heavier than Indian Rosewood.

Acacia is a dense, durable, and heavy wood. It has a faint red and pinkish brown tint in nature, which darkens when exposed to air. Its small and regular grain polishes beautifully, bringing out the vein’s forms and colours.

The types of wood for furniture in ethnic furnishings are of exotic origin, they are materials with unique qualities due to the characteristics of the oriental climate.
