In the past few years, world leaders have talked a lot about the environment, global warming and climate change, conservation and sustainable policies, and other problems facing the environment—thanks to us.
But saving the Earth isn’t just a job for scientists and politicians. As a global community, we’ve all reached a point where we have to make a collective effort, and we’ve got to try harder to conserve the environment our future generations are supposed to live in.
Needless to say, this means doing more than just switching from plastic bags.
Here’s how you can be more environment-friendly starting right now.
Turn Things Off and Switch to Eco-Friendly Equipment
Most of us have a habit of leaving our televisions, microwaves, and other electrical devices on standby, which isn’t eco-friendly. If you want to conserve energy and save up on electricity bills, make sure to always turn off appliances.
Also, consider investing in eco-friendly technology. Many modern appliances and devices are designed to be energy-efficient, which means they use just as much energy as necessary.
Plastics Bags Out? Now Say No To Plastic Cutlery Too
Plastic bag usage has significantly reduced over the past few years, but we’re still using single-use plastic in other forms. For instance, did you know that half a billion straws made of plastic are used every single day across the world? We’re probably part of these statistics.
If you want to start being more eco-friendly right now, you should consider investing in a reusable travel utensil set along with bamboo or metal straws.
Eat Less Meat
A huge chunk of greenhouse gas emissions come from the production and preparation of dairy and meat. So, cutting back on meat consumption could really help control GHG emissions.
You don’t have to go vegan overnight, or even in the long run, but simply reducing your meat intake can be a significantly positive contribution. You’d also be conserving water by eating limited amounts of meat, and it’s really not that difficult with all the amazing vegan options these days—give it a try!
Drive More Efficiently
You probably don’t realize this, but the way you drive could also impact the environment.
By driving at full speed and accelerating faster, you’re using up a lot of fuel—plus all the abrupt stops aren’t helping you save any energy either. Driving gently could help you save on gas mileage.
Also, as a general rule of thumb, try not to idle your car, give it only about 30 seconds to warm up during colder seasons, and keep it well maintained to keep it super-efficient.
Embrace Minimalism
Another way to be eco-friendlier is to be more minimalistic. This means buying only what you need and donating or recycling what you’re no longer using.
It’s also a good idea to invest in second-hand products where you can to ensure fewer items end up in the landfill.
And if you absolutely have to buy something new, choose products that are produced sustainably, like our acacia wood dining tables and Macassar ebony wood tables.
At LTJ Arbor, we believe in sustainable lifestyles, and all our tables are custom-made from sustainable wood. To minimize wastages, we also offer beautiful live edge acacia wood tables.
